Surrounded by the flames,
Praying for the rain to pour.
I ran among the fugitives,
From the circus, from my home.
In the gardens of Agrippa,
I watched the burning of Rome
Don't slander Nero,

That burnt the temples to the ground,
He was only playing the lyre.

I waited in the fields of Mars,
Safe from the blazing rage
Cast upon us by offended gods
Nearing the end of their age.
I went back to Palatine hill
In the summer of 65,
I thought about the ones I lost
And how we made it through alive.
